How to Lose Abdominal Fat After Pregnancy

The Anti-Baby Fat Ab Workout

Did you just have a baby? If so, you’re probably concentrating on enjoying your new family addition. However, you’re also probably wondering how to get your body back in shape by getting the fat off your abdominal area. That is usually a woman’s primary fitness goal after having a baby, but it doesn’t have to be as hard as you think. You can even have some fun while you’re getting your body back in shape.

Start with some low-impact aerobic exercises in order to burn calories. This will prevent you from gaining any more weight. Riding on a stationary exercise bike or biking outdoors is a great way to get rid of abdominal fat. If you already have a stationary bike at home, you can take some time out for exercise during your baby’s nap time–just an hour a day will provide you with some great results pretty quickly.

Consider exercising while holding your baby to help burn abdominal fat. Take your little one in a stroller around the neighborhood for a brisk walk, jog or run. This will give you both some fresh air and help you to get some much needed cardio. Even if you’ve never run or jogged before, it’s important to at least try brisk walking. This low-impact cardio doesn’t raise your heart rate as high as running which will force your body to burn fat stores instead of burning carbohydrate stores from your liver.

Losing Abdominal Fat After a C-Section

As a matter of fact, if you’re recovering from a c-section, you’ll definitely want to avoid intense workouts (especially abdominal exercises) until your doctor clears you for hard-core exercise. But that doesn’t mean that you can’t start shedding the fat and getting back into your old clothes in the first few weeks after you deliver. Don’t forget that you can also use ‘papoose’-like items to hold your baby close to your chest and take a walk around your neighborhood. Your baby will enjoy the comfort and warmth of being close to you, and you can burn fat in the process.

Be Sure to Breastfeed and/or Pump Milk

Keep in mind that you can also lose abdominal fat and inches off your waist after pregnancy by breastfeeding your baby. While nursing, you will notice mild cramps that feel somewhat like menstrual cramps. That’s because breastfeeding releases hormones that make your uterus contract and shrink back down to it’s normal size. Breastfeeding mothers also have the advantage of burning as many as 1,000 extra calories per day. Take full advantage of this! Even if you have gone back to work and don’t get to put your baby to breast, keep pumping as much as possible to keep your metabolism high. You will also need to eat more calories during breastfeeding, but these foods should be rich in fiber and vitamins in order to keep abdominal fat at bay.
